Standard Classroom Equipment

Each Palmer classroom has a ceiling-mounted data projector that displays images from a variety of equipment in the podium. Standard podium equipment includes a networked PC w/front USB ports, flat-screen monitor, wireless keyboard and pointing device, DVD/VCR, visual presenter, and wireless lavaliere mic. Rolls of acetate are available upon request for use with visual presenters or overhead projectors. Special setups or additional equipment such as 35mm slide projectors, overhead projectors or additional mics may be requested in advance (see Reservations below). User must provide laser pointers & markers. If you need assistance or simply want to know if something is possible, call the CTL at ext. 5617 to inquire.

Classroom Access to College Network

The networked PC in each podium has the MicroSoft Office Suite installed along with many popular plug-ins and "player" software to facilitate smooth delivery of a variety of file formats. Demo software or special needs are accommodated upon request. It is always best to test the new software or digital materials in your assigned location in advance. If you need assistance , call the CTL at ext. 5617.

Faculty Network Storage

Another feature of the networked PC in the availability of a private storage folder for files used in classroom presentations. This services allows faculty to create presentations in their offices, save them to their storage folder on the network and open the files in any classroom. Network storage may be requested by emailing your request to the Center for Teaching and Learning.

Reservations

All equipment is on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to academic programs. To ensure that equipment and staff support is available, reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance, but more notice is greatly appreciated!  Send requests via e-mail to Wade Saathoff, or call the Center for Teaching and Learning at 5617. In your reservation, please include the following information:

Name of requestor (faculty advisors must make arrangements on behalf of student clubs and be willing to accept responsibility for theft, damage and timely return of equipment)
Name of event or class
Equipment requested
Date and time needed
Room number of event location
Duration of use & time for pickup

Resources for Checkout

Laptops, digital still and video cameras are available for short-term check out to Palmer personnel; items may be checked out long-term with the director's approval. As with all equipment, resources are available on a first come, first served basis. Advance notice of at least 48 hours is highly recommended. In making your request to Nina Brooks, please provide the following information:

Date and Time it will be picked up

Software to be used

Any features or special requests

Date and Time it will be returned

Training and Support

Training and support for classroom AV equipment, software and other academic technologies is available from the Center for Teaching and Learning. Check the Calendar for current offerings or contact the CTL directly to schedule individual training. It is highly recommended that new software or digital materials in your assigned location are tested in advance; call the CTL at ext. 5617 to inquire.

Important Information

Return of equipment is expected at the designated time. Reservations must be made each time equipment is needed; arrangements may be made for frequently used items by providing a calendar to us. This becomes a top priority item.
No equipment may be checked out over the weekend unless it is for a college-related event. Delivery and/or pick up must be arranged before the previous Thursday.

Delivery and pick up of equipment will be done by the Center for Teaching and Learning staff unless prior arrangements have been made, with the exception of weekend checkout.
