Faculty Development
On-Campus Programs
The following on-campus programs are offered regularly and at no
cost for full- and part-time Palmer faculty, teaching staff and
residents assigned to the chiropractic, undergraduate and graduate
programs. In addition, FERPA, HIPAA, safety, hazardous materials
handling and sexual harassment training is conducted annually.
Continuing Education
A variety of programs designed for the practicing DC and carrying
continuing education credit are available through the Professional
Institute. Includes weekend seminars, course series and online
options. Check the Calendar for dates, topics and locations or visit
the Continuing Education web site.
Faculty In-Service
FuIl-day in-service programs are planned for the Monday prior to the
first day of class each term in March, July and October. Agendas
offer plenary as well as breakout sessions and cover a wide variety
of topics featuring in-house and guest speakers.
Geriatric Grand Rounds
Geriatric Grand Rounds is broadcast from the University of Iowa via
video conference 12 to 1 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month
in the 3rd floor conference room of the Campus Center. A different
topic and speaker are featured each month; check
the
2008 schedule for details on dates and topics.
Journal Club
Coordinated and led by Research faculty from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m.
on periodic Wednesdays in the basement classroom of the Palmer
Center for Chiropractic Research. Research article to be addressed
will be available for participants to review prior to session. Check
the Calendar for details on dates and link to article.
Professional Training Modules - Clinic
Weekly sessions on Mondays from 1:55 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. in P202
feature clinic-related issues and topics with a variety of
presenters. One hour of CE credit will be available for this
presentation. All clinic faculty are required to attend unless
absent from the college. Check the

Radiology Grand Rounds
Radiology Grand Rounds sessions are typically offered on the last
Wednesday of each month 2 - 2:50 p.m. in the Radiology Film
Reading area in the basement of the Main Clinic presented by Ian
McLean, DC. The format of the Radiology Grand Rounds is a one hour
presentation representing a compilation of the month's most
interesting cases in the Palmer Chiropractic Clinics. The cases are
online at http://www.mcleanradiology.com. Approved for 1.0
continuing education credit for faculty. Check the Calendar for

Short-term Training
Individual or short-term training are provided by the Center for
Teaching and Learning on a regular basis. Short-term training
agendas include MicroSoft Office applications, ParSystem (testing
and grading software), classroom AV equipment, teaching methods,
format styles for publishing, copyright and fair use guidelines and
more. Check the Calendar for details and dates as they become
available. One-on-one training may be arranged by contacting the CTL.
Off-Campus Programs
Requests for Funding
Palmer College supports professional development of its teachers by
providing funds to participate in events (conferences, seminars or
short-term training) that have a positive impact on students, the
chiropractic profession or the College community. Faculty
Development Assistance Grants (FDAG) are intended for Academic
Affairs employees with a full-time teaching, patient care or
administrative assignment. The Faculty Enrichment Committee will
consider funding requests for activities that bolster teacher
development, certification, scholarship and leadership as outlined
in the Guidelines. Requests may be granted a range of support
including full or partial funding, release time or any combination
of these options.

Faculty Education Assistance Grants (FEAG) are intended to
encourage full-time faculty members or administrators in the
Academic Affairs division to pursue educational programs (academic
degrees or long-term training programs) that best serve the
interests and needs of the College and are subject to approval based
on the appropriateness of courses and availability of financial
resources.
