Renal Physiology
The Renal Physiology course is offered in the fourth trimester as part of the Physiology Curriculum of the Doctor of Chiropractic program. Basic renal physiology and clinical application of kidney function test are presented. Concepts related to body fluid physiology including glomerular filtration rate and the clearance of various compounds by the kidney are discussed. Emphasis is placed on maintenance of normal body fluid volume and composition, body fluid osmolality and pH and acid -base disorders. Pathophysiology of the kidney in hypertension, nephrotic syndrome, cystitis, renal failure, and the role of kidney in the development of edema is also presented.
