Windows FAQ

Data Backups

Backing up your data is probably not as complicated as you think.  All you essentially do is copy the files and folders you created (the files you would hate to lose) to a storage location other than your computer's hard drive.

To perform a backup, open Windows Explorer and simply right-click on your My Documents folder and select "Copy" from the menu.  Then, open your external media storage device such as a flash drive, zip drive or CD burner.  Now, right-click anywhere in the window and select "Paste" from the menu.  Your folders and files are now in 2 locations. Thus, they are backed up.

Password Changes

Have you been prompted that your password is about to expire?  Have you given your password to someone in Information Services so work could be done on your computer?  Is Outlook prompting you for a password?  If you answer 'yes' to any of these questions, you need to change your password.

You can change your password simply by logging into your computer and then pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete.  Now, click the "Change Password" button.  Next, fill in the appropriate fields and your password will be changed.  Finally, press the "Cancel" button to get back to your desktop.
