Parker Seminar gives Palmer opportunity to shine

Palmer’s Alumni and Development offices once again teamed up to attend the Parker Seminar in Las Vegas, hosting a reception at the LVH-Las Vegas Hotel (formerly known as the Las Vegas Hilton). Representatives from each Palmer campus mingled with the 200 guests Friday evening. Along with Executive Director for Alumni Mickey Burt, D.C., Lisa Walden (Davenport Campus), Lois Kundel (Davenport Campus), Tom Milus, D.C. (West Campus), and Florida Campus President Peter Martin, D.C., recently retired Davenport Campus faculty member Gilbert Schmiedel, D.C., was present to connect with graduates from across the country.

“This was a fantastic event,” said Ms. Walden. She also noted that events like this are a great opportunity for College representatives to have one-on-one conversations with alumni and build relationships.

“It was also wonderful to observe the kindness and enthusiasm expressed to Dr. Schmiedel,” said Ms. Walden. “A grandfather, father and son were there who had each been taught by Dr. Schmiedel. And nearly everyone who approached him began reciting information he’d taught about the cranial nerves. He has produced a great legacy.”

Dr. Milus spoke to a number of alumni who told him “how happy they were to be chiropractors, and that they were glad they went to Palmer.”

Alumni and Development also held breakfast meetings for Presidents Club members, which were attended by alumni who were enthusiastic about Palmer. The goals of these meetings were to encourage members to bring new members on board, as well as to educate the alumni on the importance recruiting new students to the College.

But the event wasn’t only for alumni; prospective students also attended and approached the Palmer booth in the expo area to ask questions and pick up materials about the College. Even a parent who was a Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College graduate was interested to sending his sons to Palmer.

“We had the pleasure of having Dr. Terry Schroeder (West ’86), coach of the Olympic Water Polo team, with us,” said Dr. Burt. “He was pleased to be able to say a few words and asked if it was okay to tell everyone that ‘Palmer was the best chiropractic college in the world,’ and I said, ‘By all means, please do!’”
