Palmer Rugby has
started the fall
season off in a
smashingly
fantastic
manner! We are
2-0...Lets see
what we have
been up to!!!
Our trip to Memphis for the Memphis 2009 Sevens tournament was a great success...Dr Dale Smith hosted us at El Palace and on Friday night as 31 hungry fellows descended on his house! After a good nights sleep we woke up, smashed every team in the mouth with our A squad, competed really well with our B squad and C squad drank on the sideline!!! We beat Arkansas State, Atlanta Old White just to name a few and were victorious winning 25-10 in the final. 2009 Memphis Champions year number two now you hear!!!
Then Saturday the 22nd of August The Dragons hosted The Griffins from Chicago...It was a great pre-season warm up game, and the weather like the rugby was smoking hot!!! The game was a game of 2 halves...literally! We dominated in the lineouts winning every throw in of theirs, scrums were alright and provided a platform for our champion backs to dominate, and loose play was one sided, The Dragons dominating everything! The final score 44-17...
Jarod "the Italian Stallion" Selby from Canada ran in 2 great tries one off loose ball and one from deep inside our 22 stepping all 16 players on the filed including the ref!!! New addition to our squad from Chico State in Cali, Mike "The Wrecking Ball" Junk captained the team and ran in 1 try smashing through there backline and carrying four players over on his back...What a machine! The South African, Carlos Spencer look alike LONDON dominated the game, marshalling the backline and forwards and keeping the defense guessing, stepping his way through to score a well deserved try as well! Then our other new addition from Tennesse Brad "Clavicle" Keys , a member of the US sevens squad showed his prowess and fleet footedness smashing through to score a try!!!
Rotation of the B squad was enforced to give all out boys playing time and they put up a good show...
Notable mentions were Matt "Michael" Ray on the wing scoring a try that was disallowed, Paul "the Muskrat" Williams at 5ft 1in leaping and catching kickoff ball plucking it out of the air, Lionel Bassett stealing lineout ball, Bobby "Diesel" Moore all around scrumming lineouts and loose play, Tyler Copenhaver for well being Tyler Copenhaver and smothering people in his fire blanket tackles and Rusty Johnson for taking a knee to the head and yet kitting up again for another weeknd of madness!!!
GREAT JOB BOYS!!!!
